Camp Features
Gail Devers, four-time Olympic Gold Medalist and San Diego native will be the inspirational speaker for the two day Be a Champion Sports Camp at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista. Also attending will be San Diego native Monique Henderson and several other professional athletes.
On Saturday, participants (ages 8 to 17) will learn to throw the javelin, long jump, hurdle and sprint with Olympic Athletes and receive special world-class coaching. On Sunday families are invited to come out to the Olympic Training Center and hear Gail Devers speak and sign autographs. Family Day will include a presentation on healthy lifestyles for the entire family, exercise tips for mom and dad, a tour of the Olympic Training Center,
shopping at the Olympic Spirit store and various other fun filled activities.
“This is more than a sports camp, the goal of this event is to instill a sense of accomplishment and enthusiasm for exercise and the importance of a healthy lifestyle as demonstrated by Olympic Athletes,” Shelia Burrell, Two-time Olympian and camp director said. “The message is that it is impossible to fail, unless you quit.” This camp will also be an opportunity to bring awareness to the World’s top track and field athletes such as
